1. Bookings
All reservations at Sakatia Lodge are subject to availability and are only confirmed upon receipt of a deposit as specified at the time of booking. A booking confirmation will be sent by email once the deposit has been received and the reservation secured.
2. Deposit & payment
A 30% deposit is required to confirm your reservation. The deposit amount and terms are confirmed at the time of booking. The balance needs to be settled 30 days prior to arrival in low season (mid March – mid September / mid November – mid December) and 60 days in high season (mid September – mid November / mid December – mid January). For payments at Sakatia Lodge
All our prices are set in Malagasy Ariary (MGA), as required by local law.
We accept:
- Cash in MGA, EUR or USD
- Visa and Mastercard, with a 3.5% surcharge applicable
USD notes: we only accept $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills issued in 2017 or later. We cannot accept $1 or $5 notes, or any notes issued before 2017.
EUR: notes only, no coins. We cannot accept €200 or €500 notes.
The exchange rate for USD and EUR is set daily by the lodge.
We cannot exchange currency or withdraw cash against your card.
ATMs are available in Nosy Be.
3. Minimum stay
A minimum stay of four (4) nights applies across all accommodation types throughout the year. Exceptions may be considered at the sole discretion of Sakatia Lodge management.
4. Cancellation policy
Cancellations must be made in writing by email to reservations@sakatialodge.com. The following charges apply:
- Cancellation more than 60 days before arrival: deposit refunded.
- Cancellation 30–60 days before arrival: 50% of deposit retained.
- Cancellation less than 30 days before arrival: full deposit retained.
- No-show: full stay value retained.
We strongly recommend that all guests obtain comprehensive travel insurance that includes trip cancellation cover before confirming a booking.
5. Included in your stay
Meals are not automatically included in all reservations. Guests can choose to stay on a room only, bed and breakfast, or half board basis.
A snack menu is available at lunchtime. Beverages, diving, activities and excursions are charged separately at the published lodge rates.
A complimentary rhum arrangé is served after dinner each evening.
Visa information
Most visitors to Madagascar require a tourist visa. Visas can usually be paid for at the airport on arrival.
Current visa costs are:
0–15 days: EUR 30 / USD 35
16–30 days: EUR 35 / USD 40
Visa requirements and fees can change, so guests should check the latest official information before travelling.
6. Accommodation
Room allocation is at the discretion of the lodge. Specific room preferences can be noted at the time of enquiry and will be accommodated where possible, but cannot be guaranteed unless a specific room has been reserved and confirmed in writing.
7. Children
Children are welcome at Sakatia Lodge. Children under 6 years of age stay free when sharing a room with parents. Children aged 6–12 are charged at a reduced rate as discussed at the time of booking. All diving activities are subject to minimum age requirements.
8. Liability
Sakatia Lodge accepts no liability for personal injury, illness, loss or damage to property while guests are on the island or participating in activities organised by or through the lodge. Activities are undertaken at guests’ own risk. Guests are responsible for ensuring they hold appropriate travel and activity insurance.
9. Activities
All diving activities are subject to applicable NAUI, SSI and DAN standards, including medical fitness requirements. Guests with pre-existing medical conditions must declare these when booking diving activities. The dive centre reserves the right to refuse participation if safety is a concern.
10. Changes & force majeure
Sakatia Lodge reserves the right to make changes to pricing and availability. In the event of force majeure, including but not limited to cyclones, natural disasters, pandemics or government travel restrictions, that prevents a stay, the lodge will endeavour to offer alternative dates or a credit note. Refunds in force majeure circumstances are at the discretion of management.
11. Governing law
These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Madagascar. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Malagasy courts.
